Gratefulness for God’s Faithfulness

We must be grateful at all times in good and in bad, even when things may not seem to be going our way, God is still faithful. His faithfulness resonates not only in the big things but in the small. Having a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs and food in our mouths. We must always remember that these too are blessings, blessings that we do not deserve, but he continues to provide daily. Faithfulness. It’s knowing that even though things seem rough, we remain grateful because they can always be worse.

When you feel like you are the only one going through trial and tribulations and they seem too big for you to handle. Take a walk down skid row, talk a walk through the cancer patient floor in a hospital, take a walk through a homeless shelter or an addiction recovery home. These walks will put things in perspective for us. As Gods people we shouldn’t be asking why does this have to happen to me, or why am I going through this. The question should be, God what is it that you want for me to learn through this.

Needing to have to put this into practice in my own life, as I struggled for years trying to have a second child. God made the promise to me, but it needed to happen when he saw fit. The wait was hard, the false positives on the pregnancy test were heart wrenching, and the constant questions from friends and loved ones on what our plans were for a second child, were daunting. I too questioned God many times, and often gave up on the promise he made. It was at those times, that he always found a way to remind me of his faithfulness within the promise that he made to me. On February 4th, 2022 we welcomed our second babygirl into the world. And when looking back, I wasn’t ready all those years, certain things needed to happen in life before she came. His timing is always perfect. I am grateful for this teaching moment and for God remembering me enough that He chose me for this moment. My constant prayer was, “God, you could have chosen anyone else but you picked me, you picked my family. I may not understand why, but because my foundation is built on my trust in you and your faithfulness, I know that better days are coming.”

On the outside, what I experienced felt like a hardship or triaL, but now I know that it was God  remembering me enough that He chose me to go through this valley, because on the other side was a blessing. Another blessing on top of the many that He has already bestowed upon me. So I am grateful for the many trials and tribulations. Thank you God, for your hand constantly being in my life.

2 Samuel 22:26 “To the faithful he shows that he is faithful...”; remaining faithful and being grateful for his Faithfulness to you goes hand in hand. There isn’t one without the other.

THE GOSPEL REACHES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD

As I walk down high street in Kensington, London I am reminded why I love to travel. Signs hanging in windows saying, "To Let."

What I read in books many years ago reminded me of a different culture. Their Subway is the Underground or Tube, their fries and chips, and two decker buses are everywhere.

I am taking their differences  and appreciating it, reminding me that we are all different but the same. I sometimes wonder why some people don't like traveling.  It is such an enjoyable way of learning.  Geography,  language,  food, attitude and overall culture of the country and people.

To be stuck in an aluminum tube, called an airplane, for hours is not a cup of tea for some, neither is being on a boat for days, at times seeing nothing but water that stretches out forever.

When I travel,  my sole purpose is for discovering and sampling  what that place has to offer, that is unique and different from what I am accustomed to and secondly to allow my mind, if not my body, to unwind.

I am not there to change the way they cook, which side of the street they drive on or the way they dress. I am not there to correct them in pronunciation or dialect. Neither would I attempt to alter their choice of colors or what they eat or how they worship.

Jesus on the other hand sent His Apostles out with a message that was meant to change the culture and lifestyle of people everywhere.

These men had a new message,  the good news, it was called the Gospel. These men were going to tell people that their Lord and master was Unique,  He was Man and God. That He came down from Heaven and lived on earth for 33 years. Healed the sick, opened the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf, He fed the hungry and saved the souls of the ungodly.  He was crucified,  died and rose from the dead and walked among us before ascending back up to Heaven.

Jesus told them to travel, and tell people everywhere the good news that He was the Christ and that believing in Him they will have eternal life.

Start at home He said, start locally,  in Jerusalem, then travel to the rest of Judea, then regionally into Samaria and finally travel internationally to the rest of the world.

You will be hated,  beaten and killed,  but take this message to the world,  That Jesus is the Christ!

And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come. Matt. 24:14

THE CASE FOR FATHERS

Written by Denise Morton

In May, we celebrate Mother's Day with great fanfare.  Moms are lauded and applauded.  The children make sure that she has breakfast in bed, gets flowers, gifts, and in some households she does not lift a finger. On the flip side of that, June comes and it is Father’s Day.  Not much is happening on that day.

Many years ago, before cell phones, I heard it said (forgive me if there are any misrepresentations as I am going by memory) that “On Mother’s Day all circuits would be busy because everyone was trying to call their mom to wish her Happy Mother’s Day.  On Father's Day there are thousands of collect calls.”  Do you think much has changed?  There are no more “all circuits busy” intercepts or even collect calls, but I am sure the moms’ phones are blowing up with all kinds of “Happy Mother’s Day” calls and emojis; father’s not so much.

As we celebrate Father’s Day 2022, what would that look like?  There are so many fathers who will be loved and cherished, but what about those fathers who are not allowed to see their children, cannot be with their children, cannot even call or receive a call from them, through no fault of their own.

Historically, some men have fathered children, stayed around for a while and then disappeared leaving the mother to be the sole support for these children.  These children have become, and are becoming, men and women not knowing who their fathers are.

Proverbs 20:7 - The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

I am sure many of us have heard of that famous celebrity who is, once again, becoming a father to multiple children with multiple women.  One has to ask, what kind of relationship can this father have with all these children, seeing that they are all not under one roof?  We have so many examples of fathers who are loving and caring and would walk on live coals for their children.  Another famous celebrity dad, who recently passed, continually extolled the virtues of being a dad.  He was a very proud girl dad.

Fathers are needed in the home.  Statistics show the role a father plays in his children’s lives.  In a recent article by Blue Ridge Counseling entitled, “The Effects of Fatherlessness on Children” the effects are alarming:  youth suicides - 63 percent; homeless and runaway children - 90 percent; behavioral disorders - 85 percent; school drop outs - 71 percent.  These are just some of the negative aspects of missing fathers.  On the flip side, where fathers are present and involved in their children’s lives, 50 percent of children are less likely to repeat a grade in school; 70 percent are less likely to drop out of school.

Fatherlessness is not unique to one race or to one culture, it is happening everywhere.

Father Absence- According to the 2007 UNICEF report on the well-being of children in economically advanced nations, children in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. rank extremely low in regard to social and emotional well-being in particular. Many theories have been explored to explain the poor state of our nation’s’ children. However, a factor that has been largely ignored, particularly among child and family policymakers, is the prevalence and devastating effects of father absence in children’s lives.

As reported in an article entitled The  Consequences of Fatherlessness, “Boys are more likely to become involved in crime, and girls are more likely to become pregnant as teens.”  Some may say that these statistics are one-sided.  I am sure that anyone reading this article can name several children who are homeless, runaway, failing school etc and yet they live (or used to live) in a two parent home.  I would qualify that statement by saying to every rule there is an exception.

As parents we do not know what our children will do with their lives, or what they will become, but our prayers should be for God’s guidance and wisdom.  I believe that most parents want their children to be upstanding citizens so that they can proudly stand back and say that’s mine with tears in their eyes (happy tears).  Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

FASHION IS NOW ABOUT WHAT WE PUT IN OUR BODIES

Written by Elida Leinch

Fashion has gone beyond the physical clothes we wear and is now about the body and what we put in it.

“The deepest need of men is not food, clothing and shelter, important as they are, it is God.”

It is the new thing since the pandemic COVID-19 hit, yes, hot for all the new millennium or Gen “Z” stepping backwards 10,000 years ago acting as though we  are in the stone ages. With the new way of eating and lifestyles people have been farming, planting in their homes and buildings with some even moving out of New York to be able to live in the Paleo way. The new Paleo diet became popular because there is this idea that our genes are not well-adjusted from modern diet and that grew out of farming. They also believe that the food we eat is the cause of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease today. The purpose of a Paleo diet is to eat food likely eaten by early humans.

Working in high school with a lot of young teachers. I observe the things they eat for lunch and most of them bring food that doesn’t satisfy their stomachs. Plain vegetables, frozen plant-based food and almost just heat and go. They are spending too much time looking for things or a solution that would help them to live longer via their food intake .

Matthew 4:4 “man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God”.

John 6:27 (NLT) “but don’t be so concerned about perishable things like foods, spend your energy seeking eternal life that is, the Son of Man can give you for God the father has given me the seal of his approval”

Act 10:15 (NLT) “ but the voice spoke again. Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.”

We have to always remember that God created the heavens and earth made our body know exactly what we need here in earth, we must stop trying to control and alter everything, remember, don’t worry God is always in control.

outreach

Written by Auna-Lisa Grant

There are many forms of outreach, and outreach activities are usually targeted toward the adults in a community. However, we at the WEM believe in reaching the needs of the entire community, which includes children. Children always seem to be underestimated in terms of their impact on family and community life.

Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, “Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Children have the ability and means to make the world we live in a better place, through their innocence and open mindedness.

We know that children often display a great deal of curiosity and are amazingly perceptive. That is why we at the Word Enterprise Ministries are doing our due diligence using this medium to provide them with answers and make sure they are not forgotten in our outreach endeavors. Consequently, the above video has been included in our Newsletter. Please share with as many children as you can.

WEAR YOUR CROWN

“From the crown of your head to the soles of your feet.” This statement has been said numerous times during prayers for healing of the whole body.  But what is your crown?  Your crown can simply be described as your hair.  Hair has often held deep significance in the Bible, with popular stories about Samson and the sinful woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her hair.  Hair has also been very polarizing in Black culture with horror stories containing hot combs, bumped ends, and tons of hair grease.  When it comes to hair, or our crowns, we must understand the significance and in turn, wear it proudly.

Samson and the sinful woman are two notable Bible characters that involve their crowns.  Samson’s hair was a symbolic dedication to God.  Judges 13:3-5 (NLT) says:

“The angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife and said, ‘Even though you have been unable to have children, you will soon become pregnant and give birth to a son.  So be careful; you must not drink wine or any other alcoholic drink nor eat any forbidden food.  You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and his hair must never be cut.  For he will be dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth.  He will begin to rescue Israel from the Philistines.’”

As Samson’s prowess became well known, the source of his strength was of grave importance to Delilah and the Philistines.  Through a series of tests, Delilah finally wore  Samson down to reveal the source of his strength.  Samson’s strength left him when his hair was cut.  The strength was gone not due to the loss of his crown, but through the disobedience of God’s decree. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife, it was expressed that Samson’s hair should never be cut for he would be dedicated to God as a Nazarite.  The spirit of the Lord left Samson, but returned to fulfill his destiny in eradicating the Philistines through the destruction of their temple filled with Philistine rulers and about 3,000 people.

The sinful woman’s story is different in the sense that her hair was used as an expression of worship.  Luke 7: 36-39 (NLT) says:

“One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat.  When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.  Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping.  Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair.  Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.  When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, ‘If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him.  She’s a sinner!’”

This woman’s worship was looked down upon because of her past.  Her act of worship was pleasing to Jesus because she gave all of what she had to Him.  This unnamed woman worshiped Jesus with a reverence the Pharisees could not comprehend nor accomplish.  Importantly, her crown was used as part of her worship to Jesus.

From these two stories we are able to gather that there is a spiritual significance to our crowns.  This significance has not always been accepted in all settings.  Black hair has been a polarizing topic because many people have felt the need to straighten it using chemicals, and cut it to be accepted in professional and educational spaces. Within the past few years, black people have been engaging in their own natural hair journeys, growing out their natural curls (crowns). How many times have we read or heard stories about children being suspended for wearing locs or braids?  How about black people being told their hair is “unkempt and unprofessional” in its natural setting?  In order for people of color to feel comfortable wearing their crowns, The CROWN Act came to fruition.  “The CROWN Act, which stands for ‘Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,’ is law that prohibits race-based hair discrimination, which is the denial of employment and educational opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locs, twists and bantu knots.”  The CROWN Act is law in 14 out of 50 states.  Legislation was needed to prevent from being discriminated against for the way our hair naturally grows.  With more help, this act can become law in all 50 states.

Our crowns are sacred and should be treated as such.  We must learn to be proud of our hair and all the beauty it represents.  Let us hold our heads up high for we are made in His likeness and image.  So go off, and wear your crown!

I love the LORD! I hail from St. Kitts, and I’m now living in NYC. After years of rejecting Christ, my moment of truth came when the following statement from God’s Word was presented to me. “I will laugh at your calamity and mock when your fear cometh….” Proverbs 1:26-28. Mere weeks after this, I experienced the horror of an unrelenting earthquake waking me from sleep. I knew it was the rapture, and since I was not saved, that meant hell; hence my overwhelming fear and calamity. I was 17 years old at the time, From several Bible correspondence courses to a Bachelors in Theology, studying the Bible has always been my passion, in addition to loving and serving my fellow Saints. I love Agriculture, traveling, photography, and fishing.

I love the Lord. I put my trust wholeheartedly in him and he has never failed me yet. I have been truly blessed in life and I am still in awe of what he has done for me and brought me through. I will continue to trust and serve the Lord all my days.

I am a working mother of three beautiful young adults who are my most earthly prized possessions. My life on earth is one of service to whoever I come in contact with. I have several passions, one of which is food, thus making me an excellent cook. Living a life of service requires that I lean heavily on God, which I have not always done, but He has made me promises, and I have to trust that He will guide me. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me “ Phil. 4:13

I am the Apple of God’s eyes. For many years, I thought of myself like an apple at the bottom of a basket that nobody wanted to buy. However, Jesus Christ came just in time and said, I choose you! You are so precious that the price I paid for you was my life. After seeing God’s work in my life, I came to realize that there are many people in the world like me who need to experience the love and saving grace of God. I am dedicated to becoming more like Christ and serving God with all of my heart, and soul. I am a mother of three wonderful children and grandmother of eight. God has blessed my life in such amazing ways, that I have come to realize that God truly loves me; I don’t take it lightly.

I am a wife and mother of the most amazing daughter.   God blessed me indeed when He gave her to me and my husband. Originally from the island of St. Kitts, my family migrated to the Virgin Islands and eventually to New York. I was raised by parents who were strict disciplinarians, but I was never in doubt of their love and encouragement. That love and encouragement have given me the standard by which I have raised my daughter. I know that I would not be the person I am today without my Love for the Lord. My motto in life is: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.’ (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV).
